Media & Learning 2014 - From passive to active use of media in teaching and learning

Media & Learning 2014 is the place to be if you are interested in the latest developments, services and uses of media in education and training. Aimed at both policy makers and practitioners, the purpose of this annual event is to identify policies and initiatives that promote digital and media competence at all levels of education and training as well as to promote best-practice in the take-up and application of media in education and training.

At this conference we will be discussing:

- the urgency of embedding digital and media literacy skills amongst the European workforce
- how best to convince stakeholders about the importance of embedding digital and media skills amongst learning professionals and learners at all levels of education and training

      The conference will include:

      - practical learning opportunities showing how you can apply all types of media in education and training through workshops and hands-on training sessions
      - information sessions describing lots of different initiatives and developments linked to this field supported by European and national programmes
      - sessions linked to the MEDEA Awards 2014, a competition now in its seventh year that recognises and rewards excellence in this field. These sessions will feature winners and finalists from the past and current competitions.


      Confirmed keynote speakers :

      - Lord David Puttnam
      He is the chair of Atticus Education, an online education company based in Ireland. Atticus, through a unique arrangement with BT Ireland, delivers interactive seminars on film and a variety of other subjects to educational institutions around the world ;

      - Jan De Coster
      He has an educational background in physics and engineering. In the mid 90's he started producing interactive projects and became an art director at BBDO. Since then he has been working for many advertising agencies with his studio: Slightly Overdone ;

      - Vítor Reia-Baptista
      He is a professor and researcher in the field of Communication, Media and Film Studies with a special research interest in Media and Film Literacy at the University of Algarve in South Portugal and he is the head of the research group in Film Studies at the CIAC – Centro de Investigação em Artes e Comunicação (Research Centre in Arts and Communication), where he coordinates the LEF – Laboratório de Estudos Fílmicos (Film Studies Lab).
