Cet article décrit une initiative de la Commission des Communautés européennes pour promouvoir la dimension européenne dans la formation des enseignants. L'auteur ayant, au sein d'une équipe internationale, participé à l'évaluation de cette expérience retrace les conditions de sa création et le modèle d'action qu'elle a développée. Le Réseau d'institution de formation (RIF) créé au début de 1 990 est le produit d'une rencontre entre les intérêts pour l'Europe de formateurs d'enseignants et la réflexion de la Commission sur les actions à entreprendre dans le domaine de la formation des enseignants, peu présents dans le programme Erasmus. Les caractéristiques du RIF portent sur la constitution du Réseau en sous-réseaux, gestion commune de l'ensemble du réseau par les coordonnateurs des sous-réseaux, mobilité des formateurs et des enseignants en formation. Ces caractéristiques ont contribué à donner une forte identité au RIF et à renforcer le sentiment d'une « communauté enseignante » qui, au-delà de son appartenance nationale est riche des différences culturelles de tous les pays.


This article describes an initiative of the European Commission to promote the European dimension in teacher training. The author, who took part in the assessment of this experiment within an international team, relates the conditions of its creation and the type of action it has brought about. The RIF (a network of training institutions) created at the beginning of 1 990 is the outcome of a conjunction between the interests that some teacher trainers have for Europe and the reflexion of the Commission on the actions to be undertaken in the field of the training of teachers, little implied as they have been in the Erasmus program. The RIF is characterised by me division of the network into sub-networks, the common management of the whole network by the sub-network coordinators and the mobility of trainers and trainees. These characteristics have contributed to giving the RIF a strong identity of its own and reinforcing the feeling of "teaching community" which, beyond its national identity, is enriched with the cultural differences of all the countries.
