[Article] De l'usage social de la notion d'innovation à une approche compréhensive de l'action

Au-delà d'une définition, il s'agit de comprendre ce que pourrait être, quasi structurellement, une action innovante. En effet, la seule description de la nouveauté de la situation risque de faire apparaître notre méconnaissance du travail des prédécesseurs, et la mesure des effets de notre activité risque de faire apparaître nos illusions. Pourtant « faire autrement » est une dimension forte de notre métier, c'est une exigence professionnelle mais aussi éthique. Mon angle d'attaque est donc de regarder autrement l'acte d'innover, non plus pour en rendre compte, ou pour spéculer sur son efficacité ou son degré de généralisation, mais pour l'analyser du point de vue d'une théorie du changement en pédagogie. A partir de l'étude d'une situation en éducation physique scolaire, considérée comme une innovation, j'en viendrai à proposer un modèle de compréhension de l'action innovante. Ce modèle sera étendu à la question de l'évaluation. J'aborderai enfin l'impact d'une compréhension de l'action d'innover du point de vue de l'expertise professionnelle.


Beyond a definition what must be understood is what an innovating action might be, almost structurally. Indeed, the mere description of the novelty of the situation may reveal our ignorance of our predecessors' work and the assessment of the effects of our activity may reveal our illusions. Yet, "doing otherwise" is a strong dimension of our work, a professional but also ethical requirement. Then I shall tackle the problem by looking differently at the innovating action, no longer to give an account of it or to assess its efficiency or degree of generalization, but to analyse it from the viewpoint of a theory of change in teaching. From the study of a situation in physical education at school, considered as an innovation, I shall come to suggesting a pattern of understanding of the innovating action. This pattern will be extended to the question of assessment. I shall finally deal with the impact of an understanding of the innovating action from the viewpoint of professional expertise.
