La vogue du cognitivisme a stimulé les recherches sur le Soi; mais elle a en même temps étouffé quelque peu la réflexion conceptuelle et épistémologique sur ce thème au profit de la technicité expérimentale qui tend à devenir l'unique critère de scientificité. L'objectif de cet article est de questionner les postulats de base de l'approche cognitiviste du Soi et d'en proposer un examen critique à partir des positions du courant phénoménologique et existentiel. Est discutée notamment la proposition que «le Soi est un objet comme un autre», traité cognitivement par les mêmes mécanismes que les autres informations. L'approche phénoménologique postule au contraire que la conscience de soi exclut radicalement toute objectivité et constitue un phénomène spécifique dans lequel le Soi n'est jamais un objet comme les autres.


The vogue for cognitivism has stimulated the research on the Self; yet, at the same time, it has somewhat stilled the conceptual and epistemological reflexion on this theme to the benefit of experimental technical skills which tend to become the only criterion of a scientific nature. The aim of this paper is to question the basic postulates of the cognitivist approach of the Self and to propose a critical examination starting from the positions of the phenomenological and existential movement. What is more particularly discussed is the idea that «the Self is an object like any other» which is dealt with in a cognitive way through the same mechanisms as any other information.
