A partir d'un exemple précis, celui de Claire, professeur de mathématiques, J. Nimier présente une vue d'ensemble des différentes représentations que l'enseignant de mathématiques a de sa discipline : -"objet idéalisé" menant à un "monde du miracle" ou "refuge"; -"ensemble de règles", domaine de la loi; -"objet interne" lié au fonctionnement de la pensée sans rapport avec la réalité ou - objet externe : activité liée à la réalité et au service d'autres sciences; - objet à construire ou vérité à découvrir. Ainsi mises en évidence, ces différentes représentations de la discipline permettent d'appréhender les façons d'enseigner différentes dans la mesure où la représentation est définie comme articulation entre le contenu disciplinaire et la relation pédagogique. L'auteur termine son article en soulignant qu'une même recherche systématique sur d'autres disciplines serait à faire.


Taking a concrete example, that of Claire, a teacher of mathematics, J. Nimier presents an overall view of the different impressions wich the teacher of mathematics may have of his subject : - an "idealized object" leading to a "world of wonder" or "a kind of refuge"; - a "set of rules", having the nature of law; - an "internal object" allied to the function of thought and bearing no relation to reality, or - an "external object" : an activity linked to reality and placed at the service of other sciences; - an object to be constructed or a truth to be discovered. By setting forth these different impressions of the subject, in this fashion, we are enabled to apprehend different fashions of teaching, insofar as the impression is defined as a bridge between the content of the subject and the manner of presenting it. In closing, the author would emphasize that a similar systematic research into other disciplines is indicated.
