Media & Learning 2017 - Learning Media for Digital Citizenship

Date :  du 06-04-2017 au 07-04-2017

Lieu :  Bruxelles

Organisation :

Flemish Ministry of Education and Training, avec le soutien de la Commission européenne

Programme :

Media & Learning 2017 is all about inspiring, informing and sharing great ideas on what it means to be a digital citizen and how media fits into this process. Students nowadays are expected to play an active role online rather than simply being passive consumers of content, but what does it take to really instill them with the skills and competences to be effective, responsible and creative online? What’s the best way to ensure that students can be in the vanguard of taking back the Internet and using it as a tool for growth, harmony and positive development? How can our educational structures and players be part of such a development? These are the ideas we plan to explore in Brussels on 6—7 April in an agenda packed with learning and networking opportunities.

The main themes of the Media & Learning 2017 conference are:

- Students as citizen journalists

- Students' online engagement and influence

- Building comptences and skills

- Enhancing critical thinking

- Capacity building amongst teachers

- Fostering digital inclusion

- Engaging learners with media support

- Responsible digital citizenship in schools

Plenary sessions:

- Growing up and living with the opportunities and risks posed by changes taking place in communication: the need for a new dialogue between young people and adults
Prof Friedrich Krotz, ZeMKI, University of Bremen, Germany

- ...

The conference will feature a dedicated symposium on the innovative use of video in higher education. The agenda will be built around the following specific themes:

- Measuring the success of educational video with learning analytics

- Innovating learning experiences with 3D, 4K, Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality

- Exploring different video-based formats; including web documentaries, MOOCs and different forms of knowledge capture

- Considering scalability and infrastructure to take into account the explosion of data, coping with large amounts of student generated content and the need for scalability through, for example, one-button recording by academics

- Getting the most out of video in a pedagogical context — learning from the research community

- Effective assessment practices for video-based learning

- Enhancing what you get from video through, for example, transcriptions, translations, metadata extraction and facilitating search
