EQAF 2011 - 6th European Quality Assurance Forum - Quality and Trust: at the heart of what we do

Date :  du 17-11-2011 au 19-11-2011

Lieu :  Anvers

Organisation :  European University Association (EUA)

Programme :
The European Quality Assurance Forum (EQAF) provides a unique platform for the higher education and QA communities to monitor, shape and anticipate developments in the area. The main purpose of the event is to foster a dialogue on quality assurance that bridges national boundaries and leads to a truly European discussion on QA in higher education, and to create a common European understanding of QA through a dialogue among different stakeholder groups.

Through a mix of plenary and parallel sessions, the 2011 Forum, entitled “Quality and trust: at the heart of what we do”, will combine practice-oriented discussions that will take place in the paper sessions and workshops with presentations of current policy developments in QA. Forum participants usually consider this event as an opportunity for professional development and updating their knowledge.

The 2011 Forum will aim to explore:

      * The purposes and essence of both internal and external QA, and
      * How QA can be further developed to serve these purposes better.

More specifically, the Forum plenary sessions will reaffirm that improving the quality of provision should remain the essential focus of QA, thus leading to trust-building among the stakeholders.

Plenary Session I: What does the European quality assurance landscape look like from a global perspective?
Chair: Fiona Crozier, Forum Steering Committee
This session aims to examine how the quality assurance developments that have taken place in Europe in recent years relate to the global context and how they appear from an external perspective. The session will reflect on the diversity of QA tools and models across the continent, as well as seeking to look into commonalities in the European approach to QA, key questions being whether there is such a thing as European quality assurance and if so, how to take it further.
      * Keynote speaker: Mala Singh, Professor of International Higher Education Policy at the Open University in the UK, and formerly, the Founding Executive Director of the Higher Education Quality Committee of the Council on Higher Education in South Africa

Plenary Session II: Putting quality at the centre of QA
How can we ensure that the actual enhancement of higher education quality remains the focus of quality assurance processes when there are so many other demands on those processes?
      * Marion Coy, Former Director, Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT), Ireland
      * Respondent: Karl Dittrich, Chairman, NVAO, the Netherlands

      Plenary Session III: Building trust
Chair: Lesley Wilson, Secretary General, European University Association (EUA)
Has QA succeeded in building trust among internal and external stakeholders, and how can agencies and institutions contribute to this essential goal through their respective activities?
      * Sjur Bergan, Head of the Higher Education and Research Division, Council of Europe
      * Respondent: Milica Popovic, student, Serbia

      Plenary Session IV: Closing Session
Chair and facilitator: Bjorn Stensaker, Forum Steering Committee
This session will aim to summarise the discussions over the last couple of days and provide an opportunity for the audience to quiz the presidents of the E4 organisations on any topic they wish.
      * A panel discussion with the E4 presidents and the audience
      * Wrap-up and thanks by Fiona Crozier, chair, Forum Steering Committee
